200 Elephants come to London from May - July
It seems Londoners are not satisfied being overrun by cows as the Elephants come to town – 200 in fact. The campaign, which starts this Summer will see 200 ceramic elephants descend on the capital in a bid to raise money for conservation charities. Artists including Sacha Jafri who the BBC enthused as being ‘The Renaissance Man who is set to seduce us away from conceptual art with his passion for painting’ are involved. Celebrities are also getting in on the very worthy act with Joanna Lumley, Stephen Fry and Michael Palin throwing their weight behind the campaign
After 3 months the Elephants will be auctioned at Sotheby’s raising money to protect Elephants in India and the endangered Asian Elephant. The charity ELEPHANT FAMILY was created by Mark Shand, the brother of Camilla Parker-Bowles who visited India almost 20 years ago and was horrified by the plight of the Indian elephant.
Being displayed in public spaces across the capital, the Elephants will also have presence at Buckingham Palace (don’t you know) and Parliament Square (lucky elephant….)
Creativity in the capital – brilliant!
