Watch out Katherine, there is a new Jenkins in town
Mark Jenkins is probably best known for his street installations which turn the reactions of people on the street into the real visual spectacular. I was drawn to his work originally by the clever fellows at the Wooster Collective and since they first showed, I have become hooked. What I love about the work created by Mark is you can feel the emotion of his subjects in every piece – it isn’t just another piece of street art that makes a comment but doesn’t show any emotion. Take the example above. When looking at it I really did think about how someone would have to be feeling to put their head through a wall (we’ve all been there sisters, am I right?). There is a huge sense of anguish in this piece which I adore… Street art is a constant battle to stay within the law and get your point across which is why it creates such reaction. If we ever build a street in a city, designed solely for artists to express themselves, you know for a fact artists like Mark will produce something on the street next to it – This kind of work interrupts the daily tread people take and for that, I applaud it!
